Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Debates Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Recently, the game developers launched a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few notable changes:
- Every squad has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Activities performed by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking are disabled.
So essentially, the playlist delivers on its name: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think it's a good idea, as it gives additional choices for gamers seeking different methods to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments a different user. At the same time, in community forums, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this title," and another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players explaining how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," reads a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," states another. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Community Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to criticize Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it could increase wait times more extended for different playlists due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode won't start without a required amount of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the system. So this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. A different user describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake so hard, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
Should the development team has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard were adjusted very quickly, just like the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
