British Designer Antony Price, Famed for Creating Looks for Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
The British designer Antony Price, the visionary style architect responsible for many legendary styles favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.
Price was best known for his defined forms and performative fashion, most notably the pastel suits that appeared in the iconic band Duran Duran's classic music video for "Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."
This news arrives shortly after he presented his newest line in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the notorious black velvet "dress" once worn by Diana, Princess of Wales.
A Lasting Legacy
Born in Yorkshire in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
Upon completing his studies, he began designing menswear at the label Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the band's Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.
He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener looks from model Jerry Hall, who later wore the marriage dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price designed the distinctive jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his technical proficiency in designing sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.
In the 1990s, he began working on pieces for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, which included various looks for her American tour following her marriage.
After a career spanning more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in conjunction with the design house 16Arlington.
