The British tennis star earned the biggest success of his career by rebounding from a lost first set to beat world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Even though he had before defeated Alcaraz on two prior meetings, this victory marks Norrie's initial win over a sitting world number one.

"Enormous. Incredibly significant for me," stated Norrie, who becomes the newest English competitor in the record books to beat a top-ranked player. "Returning from injury last year, I lost in the opening stage of qualifying rounds here. I just sought to embrace my game in the latter part of the year. To get a win like this, it's the biggest success of my tennis journey, my maiden triumph over the world No 1 and likely the most confident athlete in the world right now."

The British player, seeded 31st in the world, also stopped Alcaraz's supreme run of nine straight final appearances and 17 consecutive elite tournament wins, which marked the finest stretch of results in the Spaniard's early career.

The top seed seemed to be advancing smoothly to a win in the beginning as he eased through the first set. Yet, the British contender gradually worked himself back into the game by executing with sharper placement and pulling the Spanish opponent into extended, grueling rallies. Through most of the match, Alcaraz served well but he struggled badly to get his timing right with his rally strokes. Across the net, the British player presented his opponent very few errors, maintaining his consistency, fitness and depth the entire contest while delivering effective serves and picking his spots to advance into the court and play aggressively.
