Fans Call for Custody of Person Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Loyal followers of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who breached a barricade and touched the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good premiere be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating clip depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen pushing past camera operators and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a promenade surrounded by supporters.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo immediately guided the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the event by guards.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram Thursday evening that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents indicated that he was set to be present on Friday morning. It is unknown if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has disrupted a performance. His Instagram account includes clips of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers performance in the city last winter.
"Measures must be taken applied against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"Oh wow so you do this a lot... how aren't you in jail?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over the Star's Safety
Several supporters accused Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her 2017 performance in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring numerous individuals.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another message on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others called for digital services to ban Mr Wen's videos.
Aftermath and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande seemed surprised when she was touched by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had gathered in a crowd of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The motion picture, to be released on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-film version of the acclaimed theatrical show Wicked, which revolves around the unexpected bond between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who portrays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the Elphaba, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing film of the previous year in the UK, and scored ten Academy Award nods, earning several for excellent wardrobe and artistic direction.
