New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they are doing well and he is expected to recover fully.”

It remained unclear when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where his condition is described as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he seemed very positive. Once more, that reassures me, because of his outlook and his words reflect that optimism.”

Authorities issued security footage earlier this week of a man sought in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident is still being looked into and authorities said it is unknown if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday morning about halfway between the famous arena and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, as reported. The assailant escaped.

Glenn said Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since the news broke. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a newborn.

“The first thing I thought about, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “I thought of his spouse, I’m thinking about his kid and my priority is his well-being. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I’m happy at the fact that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate during the current season, his debut year with New York, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

Boyd came to New York as an unrestricted free agent in March and was anticipated to become a key part of an improved special teams group under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a training camp practice on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd continued to be present throughout the season while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn said. “In fact, he attends every game. He is completely involved. Given his status as a special teams standout, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by the Vikings out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He later played for Arizona in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with the Jets in the spring.
