Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in Nearly 30 Months
Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a challenging period, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in especial - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with former coach his previous coach.
Presently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Moutet.
This represents Medvedev's first trophy following the 2023 Rome Masters and first on a hard surface since March of 2023.
Victory also indicates he has secured twenty-one victories at 21 various competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my first daughter her name was delivered was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, including in the German tournament previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and regular reactions on court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to compete at the top level was concluded.
Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an enhanced service.
Medvedev fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the last five points to gain the advantage.
The pair traded service breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial tour championship, gained dominance to push for a third set.
The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close final set before the Russian won the break to that score to serve for the match.
Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a rally at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
