Slot Insists He Is Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Humiliation
Arne Slot admitted that it's understandable for doubts to be asked about his position after another convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's worst run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at Anfield.
âI'm confident, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from above,â the coach commented.
âIt would be nice to change things and earn three points naturally but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's expected that people question you.â
He continued, âI am OK with my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it's necessary that we changed our fortunes.â
Conversations with The Board
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, Slot said:
âWe talk a lot. They are helpful for the squad and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.â
He mentioned, âThrough standard conversations we have I feel the belief. But I havenât spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.â
Familiar Issues and Squad Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the clubâs predicament.
âI haven't got the solutions. Truthfully, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,â the midfielder said.
âIt's simply not good enough. I donât even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just donât have the words.â
He added, âItâs hard because Iâm playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched this club all my life.â
âIn a long, long time, I havenât experienced a Reds side experiencing a phase of this nature with performances like these.â
Jones stated, âHowever we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until it is gone, we will always fight.â
âOur aim is to get this team return to the top, prove once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the world.â
âBut right now, things are bad and it must improve.â
