Sweden Selection Announcement: Alexander Isak Included Whereas Gyokeres Excluded
The striker moved to Arsenal from Sporting Lisbon this summer
Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres was left out from the new manager's initial Swedish national team selection, whereas Reds forward Alexander Isak secured selection
Gyokeres is set to undergo further assessments this week amid worries he sustained a thigh issue in the Gunners's Premier League triumph against Burnley on Saturday
Gyokeres was absent from Arsenal' European victory against Slavia Prague earlier this week
Isak Back in Action
The Liverpool striker, who has been sidelined from 22 October due to a groin problem, made the squad to play in World Cup qualifying games versus the Swiss team (15 November) and Slovenia (November 18th)
Additional Premier League Call-ups
- Tottenham playmaker Lucas Bergvall, currently rehabilitating from a head injury
- Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga
These players are among Potter's Premier League players chosen under former Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham coach Graham Potter
The New Manager's Role
Potter was named the Swedish federation originally for an interim period on 20 October, under four weeks after leaving from West Ham
Former manager Jon Dahl Tomasson was sacked after the national team's 1-0 loss to Kosovo in mid-October, a result that made straight qualification from their World Cup group unattainable
Present Standing
The Swedish team find themselves last place in their qualifying group having just a single point from four matches
Even if they don't manage to secure second place, they could still participate in the World Cup play-offs as a result thanks to their showing during the previous UEFA competition
