The Red Devils Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Signing for United
The forward, with half a year left on her contract, has been a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be building momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further activity:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
