This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
It might not have been at the equivalent scale as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miamiâs iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
âThis pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,â Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a current administration.
âUnless you count eating six or seven apples per day,â she went on. âI hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.â
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a Coral Gables firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling âsix-sevenâ â deriving from a rap song lyric â often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared âsix-sevenâ its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary âaway from grills and cookwareâ, according to the organizers' announcement.
âThe pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,â said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.
âIt captures the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.â
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
