Three-time Most Valuable Player Nikola Jokic suffers a 'devastating' knee injury.
Three-time NBA MVP Nikola Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" knee injury when the Nuggets were defeated by a score of 147-123 against the Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury late in the first half following an accidental collision with teammate Spencer Jones.
The other player stepped on the footwear of Jokic, and he instantly went down to the ground grabbing his knee.
The veteran player, who leads the league season in boards and assists, had 21 points and eight dimes in the matchup prior to incurring the injury.
The player will have an MRI scan on Tuesday to evaluate the severity of the problem.
"Instantly, he realized something was wrong," said Denver head coach David Adelman.
"This is part of the NBA. Anyone who suffers an injury, that's tough to see, particularly a player as important as Jokic. More information will come on Tuesday."
"We'll move on as a team. Of course, right now, I'm focused about him personally and the frustration of going through something of that nature."
